Mixing music, fashion and art often finds all three diluted to appeal to a broader audience. But WAAS Gallery’s Recess sparks a bit of curiosity and the hope that they just might pull it off. One of Dallas’ most creative minds, rapper -topic, is in charge and he brings along hip-hop’s local heavy hitters. There promises to be a fashion show, performances by -topic’s Team From Nowhere and the highlight of the evening, “My Sweet 16,” a 16-bar cypher featuring the best in local hip-hop: Slimgravy and Arrias Walls of A.Dd+, Alsace, Buffalo Black and the always excellent Tunk. The party takes place from 5 p.m. to midnight Saturday at WAAS Gallery, 2722 Logan St. Ages 18 and up. Cost is $15 before 7 p.m., $20 after 7.
