Seattle Showdown

After sweeping the Tampa Bay Rays sandwiched in between two important series wins against the Los Angeles Angels, the Rangers seemed destined to head into the All-Star break on a serious roll, especially as the team finished up with a four-game series in Seattle. Texas already had a 5-0 record against the Mariners, which posted the American League’s worst record last year at 61-101. But the Rangers failed to get the job done, losing three of four in Seattle, and instead hit the break on a sour note. As baseball approaches its July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, the two teams meet for another four-game set–this time in Arlington. And while both are hoping to knock off the Angels from atop the AL West, it seems unrealistic if the rosters stay as-is. For Texas, that likely means using its top-rated farm system to infuse life into the club or as trade chips to land a veteran. Or heck, putting Nolan Ryan on the mound is always an option.
