“Wanna see some shapes?” this is the innocent question you’ll likely hear from artist Randy Guthmiller. To view the world as a collection of shapes is his modus operandi. For Guthmiller everything and nothing is a shape. (You’re a shape. I’m a shape.) And for his artistic practice he creates figures you’d otherwise call “misshapen.” In his hands they’re given a new context, a new life. That lumpy ovular construction isn’t lumpy at all, but a shape all its own. He’ll take over the Texas Theatre’s Safe Room (231 W. Jefferson Blvd.) with his SHAPE room beginning 6-9 p.m. Friday, when there’s a free opening reception. See the show through February 14. More information at thetexastheatre.com.
Fri., Jan. 16, 6-9 p.m.; Thursdays, Fridays, 6-8 p.m. Starts: Jan. 16. Continues through Feb. 14, 2015
