Geekly bylaws dictate that members of the nerd community observe several lesser-known holidays. Honoring the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter is a must-do on Pi Day, March 14. Lightsaber salutes better happen on May the Fourth be With You. And Free Comic Book Day? Well, true nerds do a Cheetos/Gatorade cleanse for that. One of the most majestic of all geeky celebrations is Moon Day, July 20, which honors the day we planted foot on everyone’s favorite — or at least most loyal — sky orb. Running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Frontiers of Flight Museum (6911 Lemmon Ave.), you can explore the universe inside an inflatable planetarium, give lunar art a critical fish eye in the Browning Art Gallery, watch robotics demonstrations, try space mapping, attempt to corrupt a moon rover remotely and generally bro down with every true nerd in the metroplex. The two coolest projects require separate registrations: a model rocket-building class with the Dallas Area Rocket Society, and a two-day workshop on space hacking with Citizens in Space, a group that’s purchased 10 spots on orbital missions and will use ’em to send normal people into zero gravity.
