When you’re a kid, the pinhole image of a solar eclipse through a paper plate more or less defines the unfathomable breadth of space. Now the Dallas Symphony Orchestra is teaming up with The Science Place to introduce patrons to true galactic majesty, featuring a pre-concert lobby viewing in their mobile Starlab planetarium followed by Holst’s eight-movement anthology The Planets. The DSO always provides audiences a consummate musical experience, from in-depth program notes to the Halls lozenges offered in the lobby, but with the Milky Way in plain sight, a universe of new meaning will be added to this timeless piece. Performances, which also include Stravinsky’s Violin Concerto and Bach’s “Passacaglia” and “Fugue in C minor,” take place at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at the Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St. Call 214-871-4551 or visit dallassymphony.com.
