When I was growing up, my mother’s chocolate bundt cake and the handmade star we put on the tree were cherished Christmas traditions. But we dreaded the inevitable Mannheim Steamroller Christmas album, which my mother played for a week straight, until we thought we’d go mad and hang ourselves with the Christmas lights. Ah, the manic electronics of Mannheim’s “Joy to the World.” For those of you who share my mother’s inexplicable dedication to composer Chip Davis and his strange alias, mark your calendars: Mannheim Steamroller is playing 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Nokia Theatre in Grand Prairie. Tickets available at ticketmaster.com.
