There is a lot of wiggle room for what qualifies as a car show. They can range from cars in just any parking lot, taken out of storage and given a tune-up and a quick shine, or they can be something much more exciting. The Goodguys Second Spring Lone Star Nationals is the latter, breathing life into these old clunkers. Sure, there is a parts swap and any number of awards for custom cars, but the attraction also includes a rubber-burning autocross competition in which auto-restorers put their refurbished vehicles to the track to test out their mettle. Will they run as good as they look? Let’s hope so. Former racer Charlie Nearburg will be there to meet fans and show off his streamliner, the Spirit of Rett. The engines will be revving Friday through Sunday at the Texas Motor Speedway, 3601 State Highway 114 in Fort Worth. General admission is $18. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of the Dallas Observer, now’s the time to give back.
