Perhaps you’ve heard stories about UNT’s Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference, which starts Friday. Perhaps you’ve heard of its drunken excess, and anyone who has spent a good portion of their lives in journalism school, or around writers or editors, knows these stories are likely true. But the Mayborn is more than elbow-rubbing; it is a gathering of those who tell stories. Authors Susan Orlean and Ben Fountain and Texas Monthly writer Skip Hollandsworth are a few of the big-name speakers this year, and the theme is “Unearthing the Past.” Conference runs through Sunday at the Hilton DFW Lakes Executive Conference Center, 1800 Texas 26, Grapevine. Registration is closed, but Friday and Saturday tickets are still available. Visit journalism.unt.edu.
