Once upon a time, silent films were scored in front of live audiences, whether it was a pianist in a small American movie house or benshi in Japanese theaters. Today we can watch an old silent film with a remastered recording, so rarely are we given the chance to see one as it was intended, live music and all. But that changes Saturday as the Texas Theatre has teamed up with Austin-based Montopolis for a live performance of Orochi: The Serpent. A classic samurai film, Orochi stars Japan’s answer to Errol Flynn, Tsumasaburo Bando, and his awesome sword-fighting skills. The gong will bang at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Texas Theatre, 231 W. Jefferson Blvd. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Call 214-948-1546 or visit thetexastheatre.com.
