You can probably think of at least 99 reasons why “99 Red Balloons” is not the greatest song ever written, but that might be precisely the point of the new show opening Saturday at the artist-run 500X Gallery. “99 Red Balloons” Was the Greatest Song Ever Written showcases the art of Jim Burton and David Willburn, and their featured works explore the falsity of idealized memories and “perfect” moments frozen in time. So, you see, nobody actually thinks “99 Red Balloons” was the greatest song ever written. At least, I hope not. I mean, do you realize that the original German “99 Luftballoons” contained no reference to the color red? “Luft” means “air,” and those tricky translators just needed extra oomph for the English version. But I digress. The show runs Saturday through April 29, with an opening reception (featuring DJ Jeff Ross) from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. April 14. The gallery is open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays and by appointment on weekdays. For more information call 214-828-1111 or check out 500x.org.

Saturdays, Sundays. Starts: April 7. Continues through April 29
