I wasn’t a fan of the portrayal of Mr. Darcy in the 2005 rendition of Pride and Prejudice starring Matthew Macfadyen and Keira Knightley–Darcy is supposed to be dashing, not just socially awkward, more along the lines of Colin Firth’s performance in the BBC miniseries. Maybe the cast of Garland Civic Theatre will outdo all those Hollywood Austenites. Lissa Creola, an SMU graduate currently living in England, adapted the work for the stage. Her adaptation was first performed in 2001 and received glowing reviews, including one from The Dallas Morning News: “There’s a good reason Jane Austen is so popular on movie screens: great dialogue. That same quality makes Lissa Creola’s stage adaptation delicious.” The production is at the Granville Arts Center through February 17. Tickets are $16 to $20. Call 972-205-2790.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m.; Sat., Feb. 17, 2 p.m. Starts: Jan. 25. Continues through Feb. 17
