Is there a more storied program in college basketball than that of the University of North Carolina? Let’s examine the facts, shall we? Five NCAA championships (including last year’s), 17 ACC titles, 18 Final Four appearances. And did we mention the North Carolina alumni that have gone on to NBA stardom and coaching careers? No? How’s about Larry Brown, Vince Carter, Raymond Felton, Brendan Haywood, Antawn Jamison, Mitch Kupchak, Sam Perkins, Kenny Smith, Rasheed Wallace, Jerry Stackhouse and James Worthy? Not a bad list. Oh wait…it feels like I’m forgetting someone…who could it be? Oh yeah–Michael Jordan. The University of Texas, though largely known as a football school, has come on strong in recent years under coach Rick Barnes, fielding the likes of Kevin Durant, LaMarcus Aldridge, D.J. Augustin, T. J. Ford and Daniel Gibson. For those who’d like a sneak peek before February’s NBA All-Star festivities, the two teams will play the inaugural basketball game in Cowboys Stadium at 1 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $30 to $500 (for $500, there better be a strand of Michael Jordan’s DNA woven into my ticket). Call 1-800-745-3000 or visit ticketmaster.com.
