As you age, your perception of Halloween shifts. You see things more philosophically, and it’s in that exploration of death’s abyss that your fears are triggered. What if you couldn’t cross over? What if your soul wound up penned between two worlds with no hope of transcendence? It’s a terrifying concept and it’s one being explored in two stage performances Friday at Teatro Dallas (1331 Record Crossing Road). The first half of the evening is a twistedly macabre piece of modern dance, created and performed by the Danielle Georgiou Dance Group. Titled Elegant Ghost, the piece focuses on a handful of tortured spirits, roughed up in their transition to the next realm. Dark, beautiful and outfitted to demonic perfection, this will be a show to challenge your mortal sensibilities. The second performance is Jorge Díaz’ new piece of theater, The Scar. It has a similar underlying theme and borrows a few of the DGDG dancers for emphasis, but weaves a surface tale of friendship and deceit under the Pinochet regime. Tickets for the 8 p.m. opening-night performance cost $30 and include a 7 p.m. reception. Following performances (running Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through November 17), range from $15 to $18.
