Every Thursday we highlight the best comedy of the coming weekend. Find more comedy events at dallasobserver.com/calendar.
DeRay Davis at Addison Improv Warning: DeRay Davis is not the for easily offended. A Comedy Central favorite, DeRay grew up so poor, his Freddy Krueger Halloween costume was three spoons taped to his hand and one of his mom’s church hats. But now he’s here for the Halloween season, headlining at the Addison Improv this weekend. Tickets are available online. Don’t miss it.
Aries Spears at Arlington Improv A Mad TV star famous for his roles as Bill Cosby, Mike Tyson, Jesse Jackson and more, Aries Spears never holds back. He has declared white people the undisputed champs of drinking. When they offer to buy a round, he follows them to the bar just to get a glimpse of what’s going in his drink. Aries will be at the Arlington Improv this weekend, and tickets are available online. Don’t miss it. And make sure to buy him a mystery drink.
Paul Varghese at Hyena’s in Dallas Paul Varghese, a Dallas favorite, will be at Hyena’s in Dallas this Saturday night. Being Indian has provided Paul with a never-ending stream of observations about life, and we love to hear all about it. Featured on HBO and TBS, we named him Best Stand-up Comic in Dallas in 2007. Come see why. Tickets are only $10 with a two-item minimum.

Rimshot! featuring Dave and Terry at the Dallas Comedy House Veteran performers Dave and Terry love each other. Maybe a little too much? Nah, not possible. They’re a new troupe at the Dallas Comedy House, and they recently performed a song they wrote about Dallas’ biggest tragedy since JFK — the death of Big Tex. Off the cuff and unpredictable. Come see them this Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Reality Bites Halloween Party and Costume Contest at the Quarter Bar Like to dress up like a Jackass? No, not your everyday attire. A Jackass like the hit reality series Jackass. What about a full-grown (and, therefore, sadder) Honey Boo Boo? Then come out to the Quarter Bar this Thursday from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. A reality-star costume contest will be in full swing, and that’s just the beginning. Two-dollar wells and domestics until 10 p.m. and prizes and giveaways will all be part of the action. Three front-of-the-line passes for Fox’s MasterChef auditions will be given out, too.
