Generally speaking, my feelings about Melissa Etheridge lie somewhere between drinking a room temperature soda and being stuck watching a Two and a Half Men marathon–sure, I don’t care for them all that much, but often times my laziness outweighs their mediocrity and I’m stuck partaking in the aforementioned meh without actually caring. This is not to say that there’s anything wrong with “that chick who stole Lou Diamond Phillips’ wife” (that’s still how this La Bamba fan references her), I just don’t think she’s all that. Putting all of her recent personal drama aside, Etheridge has always seemed like a cool enough person–she’s done awesome work when it comes to social issues–but her music always ends up sounding bland and tame (contrary to her recent press release, which referred to three different tracks on her new album as “rockers”–all in the same paragraph mind you). Currently on tour in support of her latest album Fearless Love (quite a rockin’ title, in a Miley Cyrus kind of way), Melissa Etheridge will be making her Dallas appearance 8 p.m. Tuesday at McFarlin Auditorium, 6405 Boaz Lane on the SMU campus. Tickets are $55 to $100. Call 1-800-745-3000 or visit livenation.com.
