$10,000

Designers gain inspiration from art, so this seems like a natural conclusion: In our fashion-obsessed society, why not send an artistic statement through fabric? Artist Sunny Sliger has done just that, creating soft sculptures by tearing fabric pieces and attaching them in ways that allow the “tendrils” to flow from the wall to the floor, or from the head to the floor. Some pieces connote an almost gothic and sanguine flow…and some look related to the Fraggle-y hair of a Gorg (not a bad thing since Fraggle Rock was known for never dumbing down its environmental, spiritual and social issues). Come to your own fibrous conclusion by checking out Sliger’s work in person at Unit 9: Introducing Sunny Sliger at Centraltrak, 800 Exposition Ave. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. Call 972-UTD-ARTS or visit utdallas.edu/centraltrak.

Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Aug. 16. Continues through Aug. 29, 2008
