Uptown Players have always been a favorite in the local theater scene, and shows like those in their 2010 season are a perfect example of why. They’ll be ending this season on a high note with the U.S. premiere of r to Heaven, aka the Pet Shop Boys musical. No, it won’t be featuring any Pet Shop Boys hits (of which there are dozens) a la Mamma Mia! or any of the other band-to-the-big-stage transitions, but rather the show will feature original material created solely for r to Heaven. The musical is about Dave, a bartender-turned-dancer-turned-singer in London’s gay club scene, and, as expected, is a story filled with sex, drugs and rock and roll…or at least good dance music. Help Uptown Players end their 2010 season with a musical bang at one of the performances of r to Heaven, which runs through October 24 at the Kalita Humphreys Theater, 3636 Turtle Creek Blvd. Show times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays, with a special performance Thursday, October 21. Tickets are $30 to $40. Call 214-219-2718 or visit uptownplayers.org.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Oct. 8. Continues through Oct. 24, 2010
