At the age of 7, Ryan Anthony began playing the trumpet and was instantly considered a child prodigy. At the age of 17, he soloed with both the Detroit Symphony and the Cleveland Institute of Music. By 2003, he became one of the most sought after trumpet players in the country. We managed to snag him in at the Dallas Symphony and he’s been our principal trumpet player ever since. In 2012, he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. The diagnosis was grim and yet only a year later, Anthony was in remission. Since then he’s been raising money and awareness for cancer research with an event called Cancer Blows featuring principal trumpet players from around the world. Anthony’s a real big deal, you guys. The performance is at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Dallas City Performance Hall. 2520 Flora St.. It will be both a concert and a recording session so hellllllllo souvenirs. Tickets start at $20.
