The Joaquin Phoenix “Farewell to Acting” tour comes through Magnolia at the Modern this week with the screening of his “last” film, Two Lovers. After an awkward appearance on Letterman, Phoenix will now embark on his even more awkward rap career. If you haven’t seen his live rapping on YouTube yet, you’re missing out on some prime, possibly unintentional comedy. If you have seen it, then you’ll understand that his career is actually not so different from the plot of Two Lovers, in which Phoenix’s character, Leonard, gets set up by his parents with the daughter of a close family friend. Think of us as his parents and this nice girl as his acting career. Instead he becomes attracted to a new woman who, from what we can tell, might be bad for him–his aspirations to rap-stardom. We, like Leonard’s well-meaning parents, can only look on helplessly (or at least point and laugh) as he pursues his own hippie-bearded destiny. The film runs at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St. Showtimes are at 6 and 8 p.m. Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday, and 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $8.50, $6.50 for members.
