At first, John Hartley’s works in his Scattershot exhibit simply look like paintings of toys. Look closer, though, and you’ll notice the playthings’ chipped paint and missing pieces, evidence of their age. The longer you look, the more nostalgia they evoke, and the more you are reminded of just how much time has passed since your own childhood–especially if you, like myself, spent countless hours mutilating little green Army guys.Scattershot is on display noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays or by appointment through January 10 at Mighty Fine Arts, 419 N.
