You want to get people interested in the artwork you create? Become a master of difficult mediums. Take painter Brad Ellis. The man works with encaustic for crying out loud. Yeah, that’s pigmented hot wax, in laymen’s terms…and it’s freakin’ hard to just slap some of it up on a canvas with attractive results without a keen eye and a great deal of skill. I’d get a big glop of brown if I tried to tool and cool some beeswax into something akin to the bee’s knees. Craighead-Green Gallery, 1011 Dragon St., features Ellis’ work–along with the internationally recognized sculpture of Marla Ziegler (including standing and mounted pieces) and the mixed-media studies of everyday minutiae by Pancho Luna–Mondays through Saturdays through October 18 in an exhibition titled simply, Ellis, Luna and Ziegler. Call 214-855-0779 or visit craigheadgreen.com.
Mondays-Saturdays. Starts: Sept. 6. Continues through Oct. 18, 2008
