It’s finally here! The State Fair of Texas is in full swing, which means it’s time to remember that Fair Park exists and give Big Tex a massive bear hug (assuming someone pressure-washed him since last year.) Visit all of your favorite places, from the folksy barnyard to the vendors’ markets. Or just watch shows stationed throughout the event: Amazing Dobermans AND Jump! Ultimate Dog Show? I’ll take both, please. But really, you’re at the fair to eat fried foods until you swell up like Templeton the rat and hop on rides that disturb your sense of equilibrium. You’re a glutton, in every form. Well, this year you can walk off that funnel cake bender at the Chinese Lantern Festival, an illuminated silk wonderland that calls Dallas home for the next month. Visit the State Fair of Texas (3921 Martin Luther King Blvd.) through October 21. Tickets range $10.95 to $16. Buy ’em at bigtex.com.
