$10,000

A self-proclaimed bibliophile, I’m a champion for the tangible text–eBooks are a cop-out and most book-to-film adaptations just plain blow. The only time something beats out a book is when the real deal’s right in front of you, so don’t worry about tracking down a copy of People’s Lives: A Photographic Celebration of the Human Spirit by Abilene native Bill Wright, just head to the ‘burbs and see the photos as they were meant to be seen. People’s Lives is on display now through September 1 at the Eastfield College Library (L200), 3737 Motley Drive in Mesquite. Summer hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fridays. Call 972-860-7165 or visit eastfieldcollege.com.

Mondays-Fridays. Starts: July 21. Continues through Sept. 1, 2008
