Cultural experiences don’t get much more intimate than Eve Ensler’s Vagina Monologues. No longer the shocking, controversial hot-button compilation of dramatic monologues that it was when it was first staged in the 1990s, the piece has become a full-fledged movement thanks to its association with V-Day, an anti-violence organization that organizes activists to speak out against rape, female genital mutilation and battery. But the fact that people are no longer afraid to say the name of the show out loud doesn’t mean it’s lost its power: The vignettes about themes ranging from sexual abuse to childbirth, the sex-positive language, and the themes of hope, acceptance and redemption still rile emotions and inspire action. Kitchen Dog Theater (3120 McKinney Ave.) hosts DFW Vagina Monologues at 8 p.m Friday and again at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $10; proceeds will benefit Hope’s Door Plano, an organization that helps victims of domestic violence. More information available on Facebook.
