If you’ve ever kicked back with a margarita on the patio of a Mexican restaurant, then you’ve probably heard the sweetly harmonized boleros, ballads and love songs popularized by Trio Los Panchos—the two-thirds Mexican, one-third Puerto Rican trio that took the world by storm starting in the 1950s, recording some 200 albums during their 40-year career and scoring international hits with classics such as “Besame Mucho” and “Sin Ti.” Since the original members—Jesus “Chucho” Navarro, Alfredo “El Guero” Gil and Hernando Aviles—have all passed on, Gaby Vargas, Gil’s stepson, has taken up the mantle and formed a new Trio Los Panchos to continue their reign as “the kings of bolero.” At 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday, Trio Los Panchos take the stage at the Latino Cultural Center, 2600 Live Oak St. Tickets are $30, $25 for seniors and $15 for students.
