It might be easy to pigeonhole Doug Benson as a pot comic. Sure, he’s the man-turned-guinea-pig behind Super High Me, a documentary about smoking pot every day for 30 days straight and yeah, his latest comedy album Smug Life features a baked set, but all that betrays his range as comedian. Benson is quick on his mental feet, going beyond the pot humor with observational comedy, dissections of everyday life and bad fart jokes. As he’s shown with the short-lived Comedy Central show The Benson Interruption and his ongoing podcast, Doug Loves Movies, he has a talent for dissecting the work of other artists and finding the comedic nugget beneath it all. Benson performs standup Sunday at, that’s right, 4:20 p.m. at Hyena’s in Dallas, 5321 E. Mockingbird Lane,. Tickets start at $20. For more information, visit hyenascomedynightclub.com.

At the Dallas Observer, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $15,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of the Dallas Observer, now’s the time to give back.
