Part performance art, part thriller, part slapstick comedy show, this is not your father’s Hitchcock. Using an old and well-loved platform to try an innovative and whacky idea that has been nothing but a splash on Broadway, Dallas Summer Musicals’ production of The 39 Steps features a cast of four actors who frantically recreate every one of the characters, locations and famous scenes in Hitchcock’s 1935 film, with very few props and a lot of running around. The story on stage is virtually the same as on screen, although its presentation to the audience is drastically different…making for an entertaining hitch in the ol’ Hitchcock. A man is lured into a world of intrigue by a mysterious woman claiming to be a spy. She ends up dead, he ends up in London with the police right behind him. A classic plot played out in a whole new way, with intrigue, romance and tons of laughs. Not easily forgotten and fun for the whole family, don’t miss The 39 Steps as it plays Tuesday through January 31 at the Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St. Tickets range from $15 to $65.
