Picture folks in burkas and and saris lining the halls of First Baptist Dallas, ooh-ing and ahh-ing, calling for encores of yet another verse of “Amazing Grace.” Would that sermons on the book of Micah were like riveting monologues from Tony-winning plays, capturing the imaginations and wonder of tourists the world over. That’s what life would be like if people dug Christians the way they dig Sufism’s Whirling Dervishes, the spinning, ecstatic meditator-dancers of this unique branch of Islam. Watch the Dervishes whirl at SMU’s McFarlin Auditorium, corner of McFarlin Boulevard and Hillcrest Avenue, 7 p.m. this Thursday. Tickets are $10 to $30. Visit whirlingdervishes.org.
Sun., April 15, 7 p.m.
