They say once you learn the rules, you can break ‘em. They also say there are no rules in art. So whoever they are, they sound a bit conflicted. But Dallas-based artist Robert Jessup follows whichever rules he damn well pleases in his newest set of paintings, currently on view at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary (3120 McKinney Ave.). In Selections – New Work: 2013- 2014, he ventures on what he describes as a “free play of form.” If you want to know exactly what that means, he’ll be giving a gallery talk at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. I’m certain he’ll answer any questions you have about his latest paintings, or about his three-decade long career in art and academia. The talk is free, but knowledge is priceless, so they say. Wed., June 11, 6:30 p.m., 2014
