For those who don’t know their Flying Dutchman from their fat lady singing, the Dallas Opera has paired with the Angelika Film Center for a series of films that they hope will bring their music to the masses. From Moulin Rouge! to Raging Bull, the series’ films each illustrate opera’s influence on mainstream cinema and remind the audience that opera is more prevalent in our popular culture than one might think. It’s both an opportunity to revisit these films on the big screen and a method of encouraging would-be fans to take a chance on a Magic Flute. As Mozart said, “Whatever puts asses in the seats, right?” Amadeus is showing at 7 p.m. Monday at the Angelika Plano, 7205 Bishop Road. The event is free, and seating is first come, first served.
