With the Internet came the online review, and with Amazon.com came the revenge of unsatisfied readers everywhere. Authors beware. In researching Linda Berdoll’s Darcy & Elizabeth (a self-published fan-fiction sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice), I discovered that “the book would have benefited from a good proof reading or spellchecking at least,” and that “Georgiana[‘s] character is developing quite well until she is raped by a gypsy, she then tries to kill herself but is rescued by both her brother and Elizabeth.” Now there’s a review I’ll bet will be missing from the jacket cover. Linda Berdoll signs copies of Darcy & Elizabeth at 7 p.m. Thursday at Borders, 5500 Greenville Ave., and at 2 p.m. Saturday at Borders in Chapel Hill, 4601 W. Freeway. Visit bordersstores.com.
