The image of a potbellied man with a chainsaw doesn’t scream art. A department store, gleaming and empty at 11 a.m., and the warm glow of Walgreens on a December evening aren’t obvious moments of art either, but the works featured in the America Works exhibit at the Valley House Gallery and Sculpture Garden (through June 6) manage to capture the beauty of these prosaic moments of labor and respite. Even better, you can look at and appreciate people working hard for their money without spending a dime of yours–the exhibit’s free. The gallery is located at 6616 Spring Valley Road. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Call 972-239-2441.

Mondays-Saturdays. Starts: May 7. Continues through June 6, 2009
