I remember a high school production of The Music Man when I was a backstage assistant. All of the sets were built atop rolling platforms that were positioned during blackouts or behind the curtain. As I helped roll a platform during what may have been “Wells Fargo Wagon” or another lined-up number involving a number of townfolk, I crunched my fingers between adjoining sets, and my sailor’s mouth spouted “Fuck” in a passionate stage whisper. Thanks to the song, I figured no one heard. That is, until I saw the tape that was sold to the performers and parents and realized I was standing under a stage mike. My guess, however, is that Artisan Center Theater’s (418 E. Pipeline Road in Hurst) production of Meredith Willson’s classic will have nary a cuss, but just good ol’ tales and tunes about a man who promises the world and delivers…well, you’ll find out. See The Music Man Mondays and Tuesdays and Thursdays through Saturdays through June 28 (and July 4). Call 817-284-1200 or visit artisanct.com.
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays-Saturdays; Fri., July 4. Starts: June 17. Continues through June 28, 2008
