$10,000

I’ve always wondered if comedians are actually impressed by other comedians with armloads of awards. It would be hard to know their true feelings without conducting some kind of scientifically monitored Gallup poll. Comedians can be a naturally moody bunch, prone to fits of jealousy, but it’s usually over getting to open for the comic who used to have a TV show or getting a compliment from the wait staff about their set. If awards do breed respect in comedy circles, then comics must kiss Mike Baldwin’s ring, just based on the numbers. He’s won the Funniest Comic in Kansas City award twice, the 2011 Seattle Comedy Competition, the Trial By Laughter competition in Indianapolis and finished as a finalist in the San Francisco Comedy Competition. You’ll be able to see why he’s racked up so many awards when he jumps on Hyena’s Comedy Nightclub’s (5321 Mockingbird Ln.) stage at 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Fri., June 13, 8 p.m.; Sat., June 14, 8:30 p.m., 2014
