First, caller ID and cell phones ruined drunk dialing forever. Now, networking sites allow exposure to ridicule and embarrassment without even leaving the house to go to the mailbox. Humiliation has never been easier for the loveless. Of course, everything changes if the object of your attraction actually wants to hear from you; and if you have literary leanings, your longings may result in a love letter. A special place in relationship mystique is reserved for the love letter, but like many things, the idea of it is often better than the reality. Contemporary Theatre of Dallas addresses this somewhat lost art in the comedy-drama Love Letters. This two-character story is presented as a series of letters read aloud by the actors. It chronicles a friendship that turns tragically (of course) into a love affair over decades of correspondence from early childhood to middle age as ambitions take the characters in very different directions. Love Letters includes adult language and situations and runs 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $27 for adults, $22 for students and seniors and STAGE members. Visit contemporarytheatreofdallas.com.
Thu., July 19, 7:30 p.m.; Fri., July 20, 8 p.m.; Sat., July 21, 8 p.m.; Sun., July 22, 2 p.m.
