It’s not for nothing that the visual arts are often perceived as being pretentious–it’s hard not to roll your eyes when some mouthy street punk decides to call his found-art-and-tampons exhibit On the Rise and Fall of Love and Mao and Symbolic Interactionism on My Heartface or some similar crap. Which is why Spanish artist Miguel Zapata’s upcoming Dallas show is so refreshing. It’s called New Work. Thanks, Miguel. Thanks for not making that hard. Zapata’s new work features sculpture, mixed media, painting and charcoal, and all manner of stylized, pseudo-Spanish/Texan-influenced…ah, shit, if I knew what I was talking about, I’d be making art, not writing blurbs about it. Zapata’s New Work exhibit runs through December 12 at the Valley House, 6616 Spring Valley Road. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Visit valleyhouse.com.
