We know — the economic times are hard. We believe that our work of reporting on the critical stories unfolding right now is more important than ever.

We need to raise $6,000 to meet our goal by August 10. If you’re able to make a contribution of any amount, your dollars will make an immediate difference in helping ensure the future of local journalism in Dallas. Thanks for reading the Dallas Observer.

Ahhh, the DFW Auto Show, that consumerist orgy. This year, it has more than half a million square feet of exhibit space featuring nearly every make and model of cars, trucks and SUVs. Just hundreds and hundreds of shiny new vehicles ready for your close inspection — once you clear that sticky, annoying child out of the seat of that Audi you’re just dying to sit in. Please, we know it’s tempting, but do not biff said child around the ears, Taser him, boot him in the butt or do anything else that might get you in trouble. (Unless it’s your kid, then have at ’im.) You can’t really bitch about the hordes of wild children tearing around the convention center floor because the show is really just a big playground of shiny, pretty toys for big and little girls and boys. So have patience with any child getting overexcited out there among the wheels. One of them could be your husband. See what automakers have in store for your wallet at the DFW Auto Show, which runs 4 to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Dallas Convention Center, 650 S. Griffin St. Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for senior citizens 65 and older, $5 for children 6 to 12 years old; children 5 and under admitted free.
Wed., Feb. 19, 4-10 p.m.; Thu., Feb. 20, 4-10 p.m.; Fri., Feb. 21, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.; Sat., Feb. 22, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.; Sun., Feb. 23, 10 a.m.-7 p.m., 2014
