To everyone walking around Dallas who could use a bit of extra spending money: $50 could be closer than you think. Last August, @findthecashdallas popped up on Instagram with a simple game for anyone who wanted to play — every other day, the account owner hides a $50 bill somewhere around Dallas, Fort Worth or Arlington and posts a video hinting at its location, then whoever finds the money first gets to keep it. Some past drop spots include outside Dickies Arena, SMU campus and even under one of the ticket booths at the State Fair of Texas.

This scavenger hunt of sorts became a quick hit; in less than six months, the page has accrued over 100,000 followers. Every new post is littered with commenters begging for a cash drop in their area, and the money doesn’t seem to be slowing down.
“I started doing it because I feel giving back is important, and this was just a fun way to do it,” the account’s owner says. “My favorite part about it is I get to be a kid again. Somewhere along the way we lose that, and this brings a bit of that adventure kid spirit back into our busy, stressful, adult lives for me and I think for others who enjoy playing.”

The owner usually posts a video of the winners finding the money, and just going off of the sheer excitement on their faces, it’s safe to say that @findthecashdallas has succeeded in giving people a bit of fun to look forward to.

This isn’t the first or last endeavor of its kind. A similar account, @findthecashatx, came around about a month before the Dallas page with daily drops and has around 230,000 followers. The Austin account has even partnered with local businesses in the past to include more prizes, such as shirts, drinks and tickets to see Cigarettes After Sex at the Moody Center back in September. With more pages springing up everywhere from Boston to Berlin, maybe the people behind the Dallas account will feel obligated to step their game up.
