New Psychic Business Is Moving Into a Shuttered Skate Shop Near White Rock

After just a year in East Dallas, Devotion Skate Co, a pillar of the local skating community, is now online-only. A psychic is moving in, though.

A treasured slice of a Garland Road strip in the White Rock area is getting a new tenant.

Earlier this summer, Devotion Skate Co. closed the doors on its storefront. The shop, owned by PJ Thebeau and Mia Ordway, first opened in a tucked-away Lake Highlands shopping center in 2021.

In April of last year, the shop relocated to a small space on Garland Rd., formerly occupied by the late Bucks Burnett of 14 Records. In each of those four years in business, Devotion was a pillar in the local skating community, offering a one-stop shop for hardware, skate decks and apparel, plus a finger on the pulse of local skating events.

Thebeau and Ordway took to Instagram in May to officially announce the closure of Devotion’s brick-and-mortar storefront.
“Since 2021 we have operated on Sales & Support from customers, friends and family alone,” the post reads. “No big banks or investors. That's amazing. For this we want to thank everyone who has come through the door to make a purchase or to just say what's up.”

“With rising costs, walk in uncertainty and just being option #2 to Online shopping,” the post continues. “It's just not sustainable for us and we have no interest in long term loan debt at this time.

The space isn't remaining vacant for long, though.

According to a sign posted on the door, a psychic and energy specialist named "Olivia Powers" will be moving in. As a strip that’s carved out a reputation for having slightly niche stores (Good Records, Cheesecake Royale, Dallas Hemp Co.) a psychic, especially one with a name like Olivia Powers, might be the perfect replacement for such a small space. We cannot predict the future, ourselves, but we might have to check back with a review of the new tenant soon.

As for Devotion, the team has shifted to an online-only store model, updated daily with the same inventory it carried at the storefront.
