My all-time favorite song from Carousel is “Soliloquy.” It’s a surprise choice, I know, but you just can’t top being introduced to the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical via Jack Nicholson in his PJs dancing around a bedroom like a madman (think joyous, not “redrum”) singing about “my boy Bill.” It’s a classic moment in one of the most gut-wrenchingly realistic movies ever: Heartburn. I figure it’s time I should see the song in its natural surroundings…with a 40-piece band (just like on Broadway in 1945) and with much less divorce, crying and far fewer A-list actors. Lyric Stage presents Carousel through Sunday at the Irving Arts Center, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $20 to $45. Call 972-252-2787 or visit lyricstage.org.

Sept. 13-Aug. 15, 8 p.m.; Sun., Sept. 16, 2:30 p.m.
