Reader support matters more than ever

UTD will honor the art grad as it presents concurrent solo exhibitions by graduate students Eric Baze, Christi Nielsen and Diane McGurren. The works are varied, but all rely on photography and digital technology. Baze uses digital photography to emphasize the human form in his digital print series, Idle Worship. To explore the “beatification of the celebrity in contemporary culture,” he surrounds the figures with a glow and covers them with clippings from tabloid press. Nielsen’s Faux Real focuses “on our collective obsession with the ideal” through her performance-based self-portraits, while McGurren’s Farm to Market combines photography, text and a wall installation to document the rural town of Millsap, Texas, located 80 miles west of Dallas. The three shows open Friday and run through September 28 at The University of Texas at Dallas Visual Arts Building, 800 W. Campbell Road in Richardson. Admission is free and open to the public.
