Jef Rouner (they/them) has been a freelance contributor to the Observer since 2012, as well as writing for Houston Press, Houston Chronicle, San Francisco Chronicle and Texas Signal. They are the host of the Friday Nightmare on TikTok, the author of two collections of horror stories (Stranger Words and The Rook Circle), and are working on a nonfiction book about Houston cemeteries.
