Help us weather the uncertain future

We know — the economic times are hard. We believe that our work of reporting on the critical stories unfolding right now is more important than ever.

We need to raise $6,000 to meet our goal by August 10. If you’re able to make a contribution of any amount, your dollars will make an immediate difference in helping ensure the future of local journalism in Dallas. Thanks for reading the Dallas Observer.

Well lookee at those poll results up there: Tina Fey beat out The Magicians -- both fictional and Penn Jillette.

For the first assignment, book clubbers, we're reading the first half of Bossypants (those who have read it say it's a quick read). For those of you who don't trust our math (totally fair, and frankly, a recommended stance), that's through the chapters entitled "Climbing Old Rag Mountain" and "The Windy City, Full of Meat," but not as far as "Peeing in Jars with Boys." In other words, read up to "A Childhood Dream, Realized."

We'll meet right back here in two weeks, at 3:30 p.m. Friday, September 30.
