Leading up to September’s Best of Dallas® 2016 issue, we’re sharing (in no particular order) our 100 Favorite Dishes, the Dallas entrées, appetizers and desserts that really stuck with us this year.
In the land of $22 cheeseburgers topped with gruyère and responsibly sourced unicorn tears, it’s easy to forget how good a simple burger can be. Knife’s Ozersky Burger is not just a simple burger — it is the simplest burger, yet it’s endlessly more memorable than any bacon marmalade-topped monstrosity in the city.
Beef, American cheese and red onion on a white bun — that’s it for the Ozersky Burger, named for the late food writer Josh Ozersky. The house-made pickles on the side are so delicious that I ate them on their own like chips. The ketchup and mustard on the plate are extraneous — this burger, cooked perfectly medium rare, needs no accoutrements. What makes this burger so great? High-quality beef cooked perfectly, that’s what. That, and American cheese — it is the greatest burger cheese on planet Earth, and that is not up for debate.
