Leading up to September’s Best of Dallas® 2016 issue, we’re sharing (in no particular order) our 100 Favorite Dishes, the Dallas entrées, appetizers and desserts that really stuck with us this year.
Taverna has some delicious things on the menu, but their burrata pizza reigns supreme. Not only is it one of Taverna’s easiest dishes to pronounce, but it’s absolutely delicious.
The imported burrata plays nicely with the light drizzle of olive oil and basil, and the sea salt keeps every bite interesting. When you get a mouthful of a roasted pomodorini (tiny tomatoes), the pizza just sings — in Italian, kind of operatically. It’s got just enough of the runny, cheesy goodness to egg you on to the next piece, but not so much that you feel greasy.
The burrata pizza is a dish that will stick with you, not because there’s too much garlic, but because it is that good. The best part? Because it’s a lighter pizza, you don’t have to reserve this one for dinner only; it fits for brunch and lunch, too. (And for breakfast when you take home leftovers — if they make it home.)
