Leading up to September’s Best of Dallas® 2016 issue, we’re sharing (in no particular order) our 100 Favorite Dishes, the Dallas entrées, appetizers and desserts that really stuck with us this year.

We’re in the midst of a great pastrami renaissance — just ask Daniel Vaughn, the Texas Monthly barbecue editor who’s dubbed 2016 the year of pastrami. From Cattleack’s pastrami burnt ends to the mushroom pastrami at Goodfriend Package to the salmon pastrami at The Theodore, brined smoked protein is having a moment.

Never one to be left out of a meat moment, the Blind Butcher gives pastrami their own spin with the duck pastrami sandwich ($13), piled high with duck bacon, pickled shallots, arugula and beer goat cheese on a pretzel bun. Salty, fatty, chewy, fun — this sandwich passes the test. But then again, what at Blind Butcher doesn’t?
