How does Dallas compare in the North American steak restaurant scene? A fresh list of the top 50 tells us how.
Every year since 2018, the organization 101 Best Steak Restaurants releases a list ranking the best steak restaurants in the U.S. The rankings are managed by a London-based media company called Upper Cut. Earlier this year Knife and Nuri were ranked on the list of 101 best steakhouses in the world.
Upper Cut uses three decades of broad international hospitality, gastronomy and event expertise to curate the list. Anonymous steak ambassadors with varying backgrounds visit each restaurant at least once and evaluate incognito.
Each restaurant is ranked according to nine different criteria that include meat quality, selection of cuts, the staff’s expertise in beef, wine program, restaurant design and more.

Two Dallas restaurants made the top 50 list for the U.S. this year: Al Biernat’s at No. 43 and Nuri Steakhouse at No. 39.
Asador Bastian in Chicago was ranked the No. 1 steakhouse in North America. No. 2 is the Korean-American Cote in New York City and No. 3 was given to Jeffrey’s in Austin.
Daniel Boulud’s La Tête d’Or in New York City and Miller & Lux by celebrity chef Tyler Florence in San Francisco round out the top five.
The only other Texas steak restaurant to make the list was Pappa Bros. in Houston, which came in at No. 40 on the list. That makes a total of four restaurants in Texas on the list.
New York City dominated with 20 rankings out of the 50. The next two top cities are Chicago, with five restaurants and Los Angeles with four, which includes the Michelin-starred Gwen at No. 6.
