Go ahead and thank me now, because I’ve discovered the perfect summer hangover treatment: winesicles. They’re called SocialIce, and they’re made in Grand Prairie with fruit purchased from local farmers markets. The pops come in two flavors, Mimosa Orange and Sangria Grape (I don’t think oranges or grapes grow around here, but it’s a nice sentiment). I can only vouch for the mimosa variety, but it’s pretty tasty business — not overly sweet and definitely boozy, with a nice soft texture like a granita rather than your usual rock-hard ice pop.
I was pleasantly surprised by the extremely short ingredient listing: sparkling wine, orange juice and oranges. No high fructose corn syrup, guar gum or any of that other funky stuff you find in most of those “all natural” fruit pops. Plus, alcohol! Bonus. They’re refreshing and go down easy, and at 5.3 percent alcohol by volume, they’ll put just enough hooch in your bloodstream to soften that hangover a bit. (Cue the comments regarding alcoholism.)
SocialIce winesicles are currently available at Bar 303 and Primebar, plus they’ll be sold at Addison’s yuppie firework extravaganza Kaboom Town and later this month, Taste of Dallas. Now to figure out how to get my hands on a whole case.
