In a tiny space on Davis Street in Oak Cliff, you can find CocoAndré Chocolatier. And if you do happen to find it, you’ll discover something special: a passionate chocolatier with a particularly interesting story about a rediscovered chocolate once thought to be extinct.
On this particular day, Andrea Pedraza presented me with her Fortunato No. 4 Truffle and Fortunato No. 4 Chocolate Bar, along with a Fortunato No. 4 Macaron from Samantha Rush of Rush Patisserie. She told me the chocolate would be nutty, floral and pure. It was, with sea salt sitting atop the truffle a bit of cream inside:
Then the bar: pure chocolate that really let the nutty flavor emerge:
And finally the Macaron, my favorite. It was crispy, chewy, sweet and perfect:
