A manager at Matt’s Rancho Martinez this afternoon categorically denied a report by The Dallas Morning News that the Lakewood fixture’s closing next year.
“We’re not going anywhere,” he said. “There’s no truth to it.”
The manager, who identified himself as “David,” says he’s heard rumors about the restaurant’s impending closure for more than a year, and suspects a competitor started them. He was surprised to hear the Morning News had repeated them.
“There’s absolutely no truth to that,” he repeated after listening to a recitation of the blog item. “I’m here every day, I would know.”

The Morning News cites as its source the East Dallas Times, which today reported Matt’s owner Matt Martinez III “confirmed the situation during a phone conversation. ‘There’s somebody with a lot more money that wants our space’, he said.”
Martinez was not available for comment, but David pledged the restaurant will remain open.
“Come in and get you a chile relleno,” he said.
